Why a person can remember that an experience was exhausting, painful or relieving while having much less access to how it felt when making a similar decision later. The article examines autobiographical memory, aphantasia, alexithymia, interoception, affective working memory and affective forecasting, then considers practical ways to preserve information for future decisions.
